~ History of Tretes Raya ~
Historical known as "Tretes Raya Simming Pool". Tretes Raya Hotel & Resort is a 1925 classical legendary landmark from the colonial period built by a Dutch man, named Van Sloten.
At that time, Tretes Raya was a private gateway for the "White" population to relax, away from the unbearable heat of Surabaya trading city. The name of Tretes Raya is reflected by its T-Shaped swimming pool, originated from the sound of water drops uphill Mount Welirang.
During the World War II, the property was taken over by the Japanese until 1945, when Japan finally surrended on 15 August 1945. After the Japanese left, the Dutch returned and remained in Indonesia until 1951. At that time, Indonesia government confisticated all colonial properties including Tretes Raya and forced the Dutch to leave Indonesia.
Today, you can still witness several of the fascinating legendary colonial structures such as the T-Shape swimming pool. colonial post office and the Edward's village. All are especially preserved in memories of Tretes Raya
